Tim can’t do it…

In his second match after returning to the competition, Dominic Thiem lost at the start of the Belgrade tournament to John Millman in three sets.

Things are no better for Dominic Thiem… The Austrian player, who suffered a serious wrist injury in June 2021 and then was delayed in the comeback process due to a hand injury and then covid, played his second match on Tuesday since his return to competitions. And just like in Marrakesh, where he lost to Pedro Kachin, the world number 24 lost at the start in Belgrade to John Millman (80th). Against the Australian, whom he has beaten three times in three in the past, the former US Open winner lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in 2:34. Thiem lost the first set with a break at 3-2 and won the second by taking the opponent’s serve at 3-1. But in the latter, when two players had a good face-off (only two break points to save the Austrian, at 4-3), the former world No. 3 completely broke down in his last game on duty, becoming a white breaker. Having failed to win a single match since May 12, 2021 in Rome, he will fall by about forty places on Monday. Next tournament: Estoril, where he received a wild-card. In one of the first round kicks, No. 8 seed Filip Krajinovic defeated Marrakesh tournament winner David Goffin 6-3, 7-6 in 1:46. The Belgian, on the other hand, had the ball 3-1 in the first set, but then collapsed, then in the second he found himself two points in the set at 5-5 30-30, but in the end he leaned towards a tie-break (7-4).
